I though: “Whatever!! Half a dozen gang members get shot across America every day”. Then it hit me! What the hell am I thinking? I thought about that old statistic: “more people get killed by handguns in Miami in a day then in Palermo in one year” (Palermo being the most dangerous city in Italy) and I realized how desensitized I have grown by living here in America. Kid kills half a dozen of his classmates makes news. Some rich white guy shot in a nice suburban neighborhood makes news. Nobody gives a damn about some wise guy getting killed behind a dumpster in south central! Well, I am happy to see that I can still think that is wrong, even if it takes a couple of tries now. Unfortunately America is entertained by murder (check your local TV listing) and bored with the solutions to the problem: better social policies and gun control. I guess for me, visitor in a foreign country, only remains the work of keeping my culture without scuffing too much with the indigenous society and maybe some day a few more good things will sip in. 2005/04/13 Cheerleader BluesThe talibush agents are working the field…. I don’t know what kind of combination of laws moral and religion pushed us to this. I don’t understand the politics behind this. I don’t know what everybody else is thinking about it but Who in F&%*ing hell thinks that letting any creature on heart die of starvation is a good idea?! In this country is moral to kill somebody if they commit a crime but it’s immoral to kill them via starvation and it’s immoral to kill somebody that is about to die but it is moral to let them die by starvation. WHAT? Who makes these laws? Who sets these morals? Is going to take this woman one to two weeks to die, if you think this is moral, stop eating for 3 days and check how it feels, then see if you still agree with yourself! In my view you either let her live connected by a machine and supervised by her parents or you give her a good nice little injection that will make her fall asleep forever without any pain. She is author of one of my favorite songs: “Besame Mucho”, a song that has followed me in so many continents thought my life. I remember my grandma singing it in her under gown while cooking breakfast when I was six, I remember it mixed with the smell of fresh bread blasted out a transistor radio in a tiny bakery in Cadiz Spain and I remember singing it under the burning sun of Baja de los Piratas a couple of weeks ago.
